Practice Overview
Richard Egleton was called to the Bar in 1981 and has always practiced in General Common Law & Family matters. Over the last decade or so this work has coalesced into dealing with matters that can be considered to have a family connection in its broadest sense and includes all matters under the Matrimonial Causes Act, Children Act, TOLATA, Inheritance Act and Housing. An indication of the work covered can be gauged from the list of post-2000 reported cases.
Richard can be instructed on a Direct Public Access basis. In 2023 he was granted a Litigation Certificate to conduct proceedings to aid his DPA work.

Norris & Others v Dooley [2021] EWHC 3656 (Ch)– Unfair prejudice in Company valuation
R (A Child:Appeal: Termination of Contact) [2019] EWHC 132 (Fam)- In this case, acting for the mother on a Pro Bono basis. At Paragraph 13 of the Judgement, Mr Justice Williams said as follows: “I would like to extend my thanks to counsel and to the team who assisted the mother at court. That counsel for the father and mother should appear pro bono in such a complex case as this is in the finest traditions of the legal profession…It is a blight on the current legal aid system that cases such as this do not attract public funding. So far removed from the stereotyped ‘fat-cat’, the legal profession in cases such as this are more akin to Boxer in George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ always telling themselves “I will work harder.”
