Practice Overview

Jeremy practices in employment, planning and environment, local government, housing and homelessness, commercial and property, including litigation, contentious and non-contentious drafting and advisory work.

Before joining Chambers, Jeremy was in employed practice with Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council as the senior legal advisor, providing advice and representation in all areas relating to district and parish council, including governance, employment, planning, environmental health, food safety, housing and homelessness.

Commercial

Jeremy’s Commercial practice includes bankruptcy petitions, commercial leases and company formation.

Contentious:

  • Representing a defendant on a matter of a third party debt order
  • Representing a Part 20 Defendant in a dispute on the creation of a company with special project vehicles

Property

  • Proceedings for trespass being defended on the grounds of a constructive trust, possessory estoppel and proprietary estoppel

Employment

Jeremy’s Employment practice includes terms and conditions, employment policies, unfair dismissal, discrimination and TUPE. Examples of work include:

  • Successfully representing an employer (Defendant) in a claim for sex discrimination, discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation including applications for reconsideration of the judgement and extension of time

Housing & Homelessness

Jeremy’s Housing involves all aspects of housing work, including both straight forward and complex possession hearings, anti-social behaviour injunction applications, appeals against Local Authority reviews and unlawful eviction cases. Examples include:

Local Government

Jeremy has extensive experience in local government, having worked at a senior level for 15 years prior to returning to private practice in Chambers. He has substantial experience in all areas including, but not limited to, Governance, planning, environmental health, food safety, Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing, Liquor Licensing, housing, property and contracts.

  • Prosecuting a land owner for breach of planning controls
  • Prosecuting hackney carriage matters
  • Prosecuting private hire matters
  • Prosecuting a property owner for Houses in Multiple Occupation offences
  • Representing local authorities in appeals against the revocation, suspension or refusal of Hackney Carriage Licences
  • Representing local authorities in appeals against the revocation, suspension or refusal of Private Hire; Driver Vehicle and Operator Licences
  • Representing a property owner successfully opposing a liability order for non-domestic rates
